Moerlina Community
Community is part of what makes Moerlina special. Families are welcomed into a connected and inclusive community — a place where friendships grow, traditions are shared, and parents and extended family can experience the joy of participating in their children’s learning. Throughout the year, camps, excursions, celebrations, and community events create opportunities to come together and experience the school beyond the classroom.

Moerlina Families
Parents, grandparents, and guardians play an important role in shaping the Moerlina community. Families contribute to the life of the school in many ways — from volunteering and helping at busy bees and events, to supporting one another and sharing in their children’s learning journeys.
Being part of a strong, supportive community is one of the many benefits of joining Moerlina. Families are warmly welcomed and encouraged to be part of school life. From traditions and celebrations to camps, excursions, and community events, there are many opportunities to connect, build friendships, and share in the experience of watching their children grow.

MOERLINA Traditions
Long-standing traditions, rituals, and events are woven into the fabric of Moerlina’s culture. They create a sense of rhythm, connection, and belonging.
Some of the traditions that form part of everyday life at Moerlina include:
- Wishing Circle — a daily gathering to begin the day with connection and intention.
- Koorliny Moort — a breakfast Learning Journey.
- Moort Mereny — a delicious whole-school lunch prepared by parents each term.
- Mindfulness — a time for calm reflection, held several times each week.
- Meet & Greet — a weekly, student-led whole-school gathering to celebrate stories and the week’s achievements.
CAMPS AND EXCURSIONS
At Moerlina, learning extends beyond the classroom through purposeful excursions, incursions, and camps that connect curriculum with real-world experiences. These opportunities deepen understanding by placing learning in new contexts and encouraging students to make meaningful connections.
Camps, sleepovers, and community camp-outs are an important part of the Moerlina experience. They foster independence, collaboration, confidence, and resilience, while giving students opportunities to challenge themselves, discover new capabilities, and strengthen their connections with one another.

MARKETS AND EVENTS
Markets and events are an important part of life at Moerlina, bringing families and the wider community together throughout the year. From the much-loved Mother’s Day and Christmas markets to Open Days and graduation celebrations, there are many opportunities to come together and celebrate. Learning Journeys (Koorliny Moort) and Moort Mereny — a delicious whole-school lunch prepared by parents each term — are also treasured parts of the Moerlina experience. These shared events create opportunities to build friendships, celebrate together, and reinforce the Moerlina culture.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Moerlina’s School Council provides leadership, governance, and oversight to support the ongoing development of the school. Made up of parent, community, and teacher representatives, the Council brings together diverse perspectives and experience to help guide important decisions and shape the future of Moerlina. It provides an important link between the school, its families, and the wider community, ensuring that the school remains true to its values and focused on the needs of its students.

ALUMNI
50 years of providing progressive future focused education means we have a diverse and innovative Alumni community. Our Alumni community consists of scientists, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs and much more. Alumni members remain connected to our community and we have a growing number of multi generational families where parents and grandparents have chosen to send the next generation in their family to Moerlina.
“One of our values is being ourselves, and that is something I experience every day. I feel trusted to take initiative, supported to try new ideas and valued for who I am as an educator. Alongside kindness and joy, there is a genuine sense of connection that runs through our school.”
Machteld Irons, ESL Teacher
