Welcome to Moerlina Primary

As children grow, they take increasing ownership of their learning. At Moerlina, we nurture this emerging independence through hands-on, experiential learning that encourages curiosity, dialogue, creativity, and critical thinking. Learning is connected to the real world, giving children meaningful opportunities to explore ideas, ask questions, consider different perspectives, and develop confidence in their own thinking.

Learning in the real world

Learning at Moerlina is purposeful, connected, and experiential. Alongside strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and the Western Australian Curriculum, students engage with real-world contexts through excursions, incursions, projects, and carefully designed experiences. They collaborate, communicate, create, question, and reflect, making their thinking visible in many different ways. This approach develops academic understanding alongside critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and the confidence to apply learning in new and unfamiliar contexts.

LEADERSHIP AND CONTRIBUTION

At Moerlina, children are encouraged to be active participants in their school community. Through responsibility, participation, collaboration, and age-appropriate leadership opportunities, students develop confidence, initiative, and a growing sense of agency. Our multi-age environment encourages children to build relationships across year levels, learn from one another, and contribute to school life. Over time, these experiences help children become thoughtful, capable, and responsible members of their communities.

Specialist learning areas

Specialist learning enriches the Moerlina experience, giving children opportunities to develop skills, interests, and ways of thinking beyond the core curriculum. Visual Arts nurtures creativity and expression, Chinese builds language and cultural understanding, while Physical Education develops movement, confidence, and embodied learning. Taught by specialist educators, these experiences are thoughtfully connected to children’s broader learning and development, encouraging curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a deeper engagement with the world around them.

AFTER MOERLINA

Preparing students for high school

Moerlina prepares children not simply for their next school, but for the world beyond it. Our graduates take with them a strong sense of self, and the confidence to think independently and embrace challenges. This confidence doesn’t happen by accident. Years of developing independence, self-direction, and ownership of learning prepare Moerlina students to transition confidently to high school and adapt to new environments.

“One of our values is being ourselves, and that is something I experience every day. I feel trusted to take initiative, supported to try new ideas and valued for who I am as an educator. Alongside kindness and joy, there is a genuine sense of connection that runs through our school.”
