Wellbeing by design

Our culture of wellbeing is intentional, evidence-based and by design. It is not an add-on or something children access only when they need extra support. It is woven into the environments we create, the relationships we build and the way we teach. We know that children thrive when they understand what is expected of them, why it matters and how they can contribute. Our learning is designed to build confidence, independence, and agency. Together, these create the conditions for children to develop the skills they need to thrive.

Confidence and agency

We want children to become confident, independent young people who can make decisions, take responsibility and have a voice in their learning. Agency is the ability to make choices, act independently, and find your voice. By giving children meaningful opportunities to make decisions, solve problems, express their ideas and take responsibility, we help them develop the confidence and capability to navigate the world around them.

Calm & emotional wellbeing

Children learn best when they feel safe, settled and ready to engage. Calm by Design recognises that wellbeing is influenced by the environments, relationships, routines and expectations children experience every day. We help children understand their emotions, develop strategies for managing challenges and change, and find their own sense of calm. Creating a calm learning environment requires consistency and a deep commitment from everyone.

Physical wellbeing

Physical wellbeing is closely connected to how children feel, learn and engage with the world around them. We encourage children to experience the benefits of movement, activity, nature, healthy habits and rest, while developing an understanding of how these contribute to their mental, social, emotional and physical wellbeing. We create regular opportunities for children to move, be active, learn in nature and discover the positive impact physical activity can have on their lives.

Skills for life

Education is about more than what children know. It is also about equipping them for life. We help children develop self-awareness, resilience, self-care, problem-solving and the practical skills they need to navigate an increasingly complex world. By understanding themselves, recognising their strengths and weaknesses, managing challenges and taking responsibility for their choices, children develop the capability and confidence to adapt, contribute and thrive.

“I do not have enough words to thank you for the most excellent outcomes of well-being for my grandson. Because of Moerlina, Seb loved school – He adored his teachers, especially Maria. The whole ambience of the school was kind. The children are responsive and relaxed. The professionalism and just plain care that is shown to children and families is beyond excellent. ”
