Our values, told by those who hold them
While you can feel the values the moment you walk through the doors at Moerlina, a deep and inclusive process—engaging staff, parents, grandparents, and students—has helped us collaboratively define the specific values that make up the magic of Moerlina.
Over a two year period the schools values were defined and articulated by the children at the school. These values were then painted and illustrated by the children and their artwork and words are now proudly on display at the front entrance to the school.

In their own words
When asked to describe what these values mean to them, the children’s words were wonderfully simple and insightful. These are their words, and they continue to shape Moerlina’s culture.
GROWING
“We are growing up well.
People around us are truthful, and they are growing too.”
KINDNESS
“When a piece of love comes from your heart to connect us to each other.
When everyone around us helps us to grow.”
BEING OURSELVES
“Moerlina makes everyone feel themselves.
We can go our own way and be unique in our own way.”
JOY
“Sliding down the hill, muddy puddles, doing maths!
We feel joy together and know everyone loves all of us.”
CALMNESS
“We are brave and gentle at the same time.
We help everyone to learn.”
This artwork has also been extended to create an interpretive fence at the entrance to the school. Affectionately called the ‘Peppy Tree Fence’ children’s artwork provides a warm and creative entry statement for the school. Key concepts, including Wonder, Opportunity and Connection, are featured in the artwork.
”We hope the artwork makes people in the community and people who walk past curious to come inside and explore Moerlina.”
Maria Marsh, Co-Principal

“Having taught in schools across different countries and educational settings, I have come to appreciate how special it is to find a place where you truly belong. It is one of the reasons I believe so strongly in our community. I see that same sense of belonging in our children and families, and I believe it is what makes Moerlina such a special place to be and learn.”
